Barbie Clothes & Hairclips

Our little friend Lucy turned 5 recently and we were delighted to be invited to her party. We knew exactly what she would love. Barbie Doll Clothes. So I sent out to give making some ago and well I was rather pleased with the results and she loved them when she received them. I also make her sets of hair clips and she loved them too. I had fun making this gift. We bought her a necklace and some Barbie Books to go with the handmade items.

I am on a roll

Well lets hope some of this momentem keeps up throughout the year...... I have finished the dolly quilt and it is 2 weeks until Emma's Birthday not bad going. I am very pleased with how it looks.

I also have made my first item out of a book I received for Christmas and it is a skirt for ME. I also love how it has come together.

Now I can start on those 2 blocks for the Quilts for Qld project that I am supporting it is providing quilts of hope to people who have lost everything in the floods recently. It is hoped that something personal will just help make rebuilding their lives a little easier.

A Dolls Quilt for Emma's Babies

I am having a go at making a dolls quilt for Emma's babies. This will be part of her Birthday Present in February as I am giving her my dolls bed that was made by my Grandfather for me when I was 2. It is very precious to me and special but it also is quite sturdy and as she loves babies and mothering them I feel she is old enough to play with the dolls bed and properly and not damage it. The original bed linen and bedspread are all intact just as they are going on 40 years old they need a revamp and spruce up so some new sheets and a pretty girlie colours quilt is just the thing. Here is the WIP the 10 cm squares cut and ironed (remember i hate ironing).
The squares lay out to work out placement. I am also happy to say that I have actually stitched them all now I just need to cut out the backing fabric and wadding for the middle and quilt it. Then I have to make some binding and finish it by binding it. Perhaps tomorrow night some of that will happen. Tonight I am updating blogs.
Still on quilting I am also and call me crazy as I am not really a quilter. I have committed to making 2 quilt blocks that are 12 1/2 inches square and will be joined with other blocks to make quilts for QLD for the flood relief. For full details follow this link. www.retromummy.blogspot.com this amazing lady is organising it.

School Chair Bag

As we will have a big Year 1 boy he needs a chair bag for school it is part of the school booklist requirements. I wasn't too fussed on the ones that the school sold that are made out of shadecloth fabric in horrible colours so my Year 1 boy chose red as his base colour and he loves trains so some leftover Diesel Train fabric from his bunting was used for the pocket. I had some black cotton that I used for his name and this was my first attempt at blanket stitching on my new (well not so new anymore machine it will be 2 years old in May). Both Hamish and i are very pleased with how this chair bag turned out and it will be very easy for him to recognise his from the shadecloth ones.

It has been awhile

I admit it I am terrible at keeping my blog updated so I will show you the things I made in the latter part of 2010 and promise to try and update it more often in 2011. There I have put that in writing now so I will have to do it or my best.

I made a few little hats and was thrilled with how they turned out.

I also made the teachers presents for DS class and they said they liked them too so I was pleased with how they turned out and that the teachers were pleased to receive them or so they said.

A new hat for Winter

Inspired by a very talented and clever Retro Mummy www.retromummy.blogspot.com/2010/05/crochet-crochet-and-more-crochet.html I decided to dig up my crochet skills and see if I could make my little girl a winter hat. And here is the result it wasn't too hard and pretty quick to make I really am happy with the result and she seems to like it too (it is good when you have a child who likes to wear hats). I used the free pattern from here www.get-hooked.net/free-patterns/peek-a-boo-flower-hat I just didn't make the flower as big cause it is for my 1 year old.

More Kindy Craft Stall Stuff

Yes it has been awhile since I posted and I am afraid to say that not alot has been happening with the sewing machine however I did not post pictures of all the stuff I made back in July for the Kindy Craft and Cake Stall (I think I was a bit over it and had to get back to homely household matters that had been neglected) so here are the pics of the table food throws, wheat bags and Fairy and Wizard Wand Biscuits that I made. There was 50 of the Wand Biscuits and they all sold so they were really successful more than my poor craft stall however after lots of post Fete/Carnival Day sales everything got sold and the profit for the whole day was over $4,000 so that was a great outcome for the Kindy though I don't know that I would organise the craft stall again but time will tell.

Aprons Aprons Aprons for the Kindy Fair

After being conned into co ordinating the Craft Stall for the Kindy Fair I have spent the last few weeks in my spare time making 21 Kids Aprons. Here is a sample of them there is more designs but my camera doesn't have a wide enough lens to show them all. I hope that enough people like them to buy them.

Bunting for a big (little) boys room

Well with our 2nd baby due to arrive in the next 2 weeks I have finally finished the bunting for in DS's new bedroom (he moved about 3 weeks ago). I also made the curtains but thought a bunting would make them more interesting rather than just being a plain colour.

So here the fabric is before it was all cut and then the finished product. I also recovered a lamp shade with the fabric with all the yellow trucks and diggers on. DS loves his new room and is happy to have given up his old room for the babieeee as he calls it
.

Ok now that they gifts have been delivered and opened I can blog them. For my little niece I made an apron with lots of girls on it. And for her new baby that is coming in January I made a little star taggy soft toy it rattles when it is moved and has all the tags to hold on to suck or use to tie it to the pram etc.

Froggie Boxer Shorts

Nana bought this funny Frog fabric with good intentions to make PJs for DS. But she doesn't live nearby and to quote her "she went cold on the idea" so when we were visiting she gave me the fabric and said that I could make a painting smock or perhaps PJ Boxer shorts as there wasn't enough fabric to make a PJ top as well. So I have made 2 pairs of Boxers and DS loves them he will wear them all day if I let him and I have purchased plain Tshirts to wear with them. I think (when I get round to it) I will applique a Frog on to the Tshirt but for now he wears them with a plain tshirt.

Premmie Smocks

To help out the Darwin Hospital's Premmie Babies and their families I have made 3 Premmie Smocks the middle one is a small size and the 2 others with the cars on are Medium Size. They just need snaps put on them and then they will be sent off to Darwin to the Special Care Unit. I hope to make a few more out of left over fabric from other projects I just need to find more time to complete them.

Halloween Wizard

Well I finally finished the wizard hat in time for Halloween the Wizard Cape had been made and been in the dress up box for ages and the hat which was a little more complicated had remained a UFO. We were all happy with how the hat turned out even if it is currently a little bit too big for my little wizard. Halloween and the trick or treating was a very nice evening.

Another Birthday another Apron

Another little friend was turning 3 and she loves to cook and play with playdough so the perfect present is a cute apron and some cooking utensils (pink of course) and cookie cutters that double as playdough cutters too. Here it is on my little male model who just happens to love pink too.

A Bag for a Birthday Girl

Our friend Bella just loves her babies and has nothing to take her babies bottles and things out with here. So for her Birthday we made this cute little denim bag and filled it with all things little girls like. Headbands, lip balm, things for her dollys and baby.

More PJs

My Thomas crazy son has days when he won't wear anything but his Thomas pants and shirt as he calls them. So we go off to playgroup in our PJs and even sometimes the polar fleece dressing gown (yes I know it is not even winter yet and that he is melting but he won't not wear them). What is a mother to do when she can't even get to wash them. Get some more Thomas attire and that is what we did we went to Spotlight and he chose the material and I cut them out when he was asleep and when he was awake we made them together. Well he sat on my lap and I sewed. He likes to put the pins out for me which can get tricky but we managed to make the pants together and some of the top. I finished the top when he went to bed. So here are the 2nd pair of Thomas PJs that will save my sanity and enable me to get the PJs washed.

Cooking Apron Gift

A little friend of ours was turning 3 so I made this cute apron and got some lovely pink cooking utensils and some biscuit cutter shapes for her gift she loved it as did DS who was modeling it the morning before we gave it to her.

Construction Pjamas

These are size 3 pjs ready for winter. Guess who loves trucks, diggers and anything to do with construction so this flannelette was perfect and reduced to $3 per metre made for some very inexpensive PJs.

New Sheet Bag for Kindy

Seeing that the sheet bag ripped open last week I made this new one that matches his red kindy sheets nicely. It was not surprising that the old bag ripped it was a Canterbury one I have had for probably 10 years so it had a good run. This new one is much nicer and has spacemen on it.

Motorbike Shorts

I made these a few months ago but had camera problems so never go to blog them. I made the specifically without any pockets so that we don't bring home half the sandpit from playgroup. They have a false fly and I put that adjustable elastic in them so they should last for awhile. I think the cotton drill is pretty cool and snapped it up when I saw it you know how it is with boy fabrics you have to get them when you see them.

Dora Dressing Gown

I just finished this Dora the Explorer Dressing Gown for my niece. I am pretty pleased with how it turned out now just can't wait to send it to her. BTW it is Polar Fleece but you probably already realised that so pretty stretchy to sew with.

A Twirly Skirt

This was a UFO that started 18 months ago originally for my niece but I just found it and finished it and gave it to my Neighbour who is 4 years old she loves it and I do too. Not too bad for a first attempt at a Twirly Skirt

Thomas Dressing Gown

Well here it is finally finished - It has been a long project - started it in late April it has been finished since 2 May apart from needing button holes or buttons. I finally did them on the long weekend in June. My Thomas mad little man loves it and it keeps him all cosy and warm. I am very happy with how it turned out. I used a pattern that my Mum used for myself and my brothers when we were little so it is about 35 years old and the price on it was 5 cents just imagine how many patterns we would buy if they only cost 5 cents these days.

Puppy Pants

I just fell in love with fabric and had to have it. DH is not so sure about it's suitability for a boy but I love it and so does DS and that is all that matters.

The skirt

Well with Christmas etc my blog has been neglected I have managed a few projects since I last posted but silly me didn't take pictures of all of them. Anyway here is a picture of the skirt I made and wore on Christmas Day I am very happy with how it turned out. It is hard to see that it has pleats across the waist. I had to use invisible thread to do the hem line as there was so many colours that invisible was the best way to go. That stuff is funny to sew with it is like thin fishing line.

Anyway sorry the photo is not the best.

I also make covered coathangers for my little man's childcarers for Christmas presents and they loved them so that is great. Sorry no pictures

A new sleeping bag.....with clowns

Just copied a winter weight sleeping bag that we had and produced this lightweight one for DS who will not stay under the covers and gets cold at 4 am in the morning. I am happy with how it turned out and will probably make another one.

My first attempt at a Christmas Shirt

This one is for my niece but I want to do a couple more one for DS and 2 others for some friends 1 year olds. Anyway I am pretty happy with it. This is a 00 size so for the others I think I will make the Christmas Tree bigger so that I can put some ric rac on it as tinsel (can't you just tell I am dying to put ric rac on to something it reminds me of my childhood and my dresses my Grandma and Mum made me)

I appliqued the tree onto the red fabric and then stitched the red square of fabric onto the tshirt that way I figure I can get the shirt back after Christmas take off the Christmas design and put something else on it and the tshirt will get more wear.

Cars cars cars

Ok finally I have used some of the lovely car fabric we got a few weeks ago of Atomic Textiles. I was scared to cut it. Anyway I am happy with how it worked out on the singlet and DS seemed to like it too. Don't mind the bit of lunch he spilt on it.

DH was a bit are you sure you want that and I told him his opinion didn't count and I was getting it anyway he tells me last night that he now likes it. Anyway I am going to make a skirt just have to be careful when I cut it to make sure I pattern match the girls in it. As it wasn't cheap so don't want to make a mistake and have to get more.

A Softie for Us

Well look what lovely mail we received today from Brazen

Eddie isn't he cute. He has a cute little face and an even cuter little bottom with a heart on it.

Thank you DS loves his new little friend and he arrived on a day when not alot was right for him as he is sick and has molars coming through so the few smiles we got from Eddie were a welcome change from the crying and whinging of today and yesterday.
